deegree Framework - Components for Realizing Spatial Data Infrastructures
A Spatial Data Infrastructure is a distributed system encompassing technical and organizational aspects: In inter-institutional organisational units developing their own value-added chain and market for geospatial information as well as a distributed technical system as a specific solution, e.g. an agency, can be regarded as Spatial Data Infrastructure.
The technical basis of deegree are standardised Services, mostly Web-Services, enabling the access and handling of spatial data. Standardisation is needed for two reasons: First, it guarantees sustainability and vendor independence of a specific solution and secondly, it meets the basic requirement for the interoperability of services.
The Free Software based deegree framework provides the essential componentes for realizing a Spatial Data Infrastructure by implementing the standards of Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and ISO/TC 211 (ISO Technical Committee 211 -- Geographic Information/Geomatics). During the implementation of deegree, the compliance to OGC-standards has highest priority to ensure compatibility with products of other vendors.
deegree contains 4 kinds of products:
