Since the foundation of lat/lon, our activities focus on the know-how about open standards for geospatial information processing. It is the basis for consulting, software development, training and support so that our customers can rely on a profound service package focused on open solutions.

The commitment within the deegree project illustrates, that vendor independence and standardization are closely-coupled to the concept of "Free Software" at lat/lon. Currently, deegree is the most substantial implementation of OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium)- and ISO-standards in the field of Free Software. It builds the foundation for numerous productive components of spatial data infrastructures - in Germany, Europe and the entire world.

In a project consortium with the italian partner Planetek Italia lat/lon has been awarded the tender for the "Development of the technical components of the INSPIRE Geoportal at European Level", of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) - Institute for Environment and Sustainability. The INSPIRE Geoportal will be the unique access point to global European environment geoinformation resources shared and made available by all member states within the framework of the "Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community" (INSPIRE) Directive. The main objective of this project is to provide the operational version of the INSPIRE Geoportal at European level, including integration interfaces for discovery and view services from member state portals and thus to foster the harmonization of member states' national Geoportals implementations through the adoption of open standards and open source products.
